CCFD#3 is proud to announce the completion of our newest apparatus. With this new apparatus going into service, the previous Rescue (a KME type 3 brush truck) remains in service as our first out wildland apparatus. Rescue 31 was placed in service around a week ago. A collaborative effort between our district mechanic, Capt. Marcus Wells, along with Career and Volunteer member labor helped bring the project together. A custom-built apparatus can cost upwards of $250,000. With the use of in-house expertise and fabrication, we were able to build this apparatus for around half that cost. In addition to saving money, the attention to detail and Capt. Wells' extensive automotive experience ensures us a quality build. See some in-progress photos below, along with the finished build. 🌲 Protect Our Forests from Pine Bark Beetles! 🌲After the severe windstorm that hit Leavenworth back in December, many properties have a lot of downed trees and other storm debris. Did you know this debris can become prime habitat for pine bark beetles? These beetles can spread quickly and weaken healthy trees if storm-damaged wood is left unchecked.What you can do:✅ Remove fallen branches and damaged trees from your property promptly.✅ Cut and properly store firewood away from standing pine trees.✅ Consider chipping debris or hauling it to a proper disposal site.✅ Keep an eye out for signs of beetle activity, like small holes or resin “pitches” on trees.By taking action now, we can help protect our forests and community from a beetle outbreak this spring.
