We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the current Fire Restrictions in place for Fire District 3 and the surrounding area. ALL outdoor burning is closed - This includes recreational campfires. (This applies to private, USFS, and WADNR protected lands). The Current Fire Danger is: VERY HIGHU.S. Forest Service - Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest restrictions can be found here: www.fs.usda.gov/r06/okanogan-wenatcheeWashington State Department of Natural Resources restrictions can be found here:dnr.wa.gov/wildfire-resources/outdoor-burning/burn-restrictionsFireworks continue to be illegal in Chelan County. We will have apparatus patrolling and the Sheriff's Office will be contacted for anyone observed lighting fireworks. This is not a normal July 4th. This year, we are experiencing extremely dry fuel moistures for this time of year. The Fire Danger is currently what we would expect in mid to late August, not early July. The probability of a fast spread from a new start is high. You are responsible for any negligent act or fire that you start, including cost of suppression. LWFR USFS DNR are fighting a fire on white Pine Rd just off Hwy 2. The fire is causing disruptions with rail traffic and power up Stevens pass. Mutual aid resources from Districts 3 and 6 also assisting. Level 2 evacuations are being issued for area of White Pine Rd. South of highway 2 to MP 80. Gill creek and all of Merritt are now included in level 2 evacuations. #firewire #lakewenatchee

On June 10th, firefighters from Chelan County Fire District 3, District 9, District 6 along with the Forest Service and DNR responded to a brush fire in Tumwater Canyon just outside of Leavenworth. With quick response from both districts along with a helicopter from Wenatchee Valley Fire Department, we were able to get quick control of the fire. CCFD3 is currently engaging a working brush fire in Tumwater Canyon. Please avoid the area. The highway is currently closed.1930 Update - The fire is currently burning in heavy timber. We have 40+ firefighters on scene along with the DNR and a rotor.2130 Update - The Fire has been contained. All county resources are off the line and in service. All outdoor burning is now closed. This includes Recreational Campfires. The Fire Danger is currently: HIGH Approved open-flame devices are:Pressurized gas camp stoves, catalytic heaters and white gas camp stoves and lanterns, commercially made and labeled barbeque devices, Stove or fireplace fires completely contained within a home or residence, Propane or pressurized white gas warming devices with a shield and base, An enclosed solid fuel fire that utilizes a wick to distribute the flame, and Listed gas campfire devices.If you have any questions regarding Fire Restrictions, please call Station 31 at (509) 548-7711.With unseasonably hot and windy conditions headed this way, the Chelan County fire marshal is banning all residential campfires in the county’s unincorporated areas.The ban does not include propane-fueled campfire units and it does not apply to commercially made barbecues and camp stoves.“It’s just too dry out there already,” Fire Marshal Chris Pedersen said. “Overall, conditions are shaping up to be a hazardous wildfire season. We need everyone on board with restrictions and to be vigilant about not causing a wildfire in our county.”Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s Friday through Monday, with highs hovering close to 100 degrees by Monday, according to the National Weather Service.With the new ban, Stage 2 fire restrictions are in place across the county’s unincorporated areas, both in the valley and mountain areas. Stage 2 restrictions also ban target shooting outside of a gun range. Already in place, motorists are not allowed to drive off a county road and the use of exploding targets and incendiary ammunition is prohibited.Pedersen reminds the community that fireworks are banned across Chelan County, both in the unincorporated and incorporated areas.“People, whether you live here or are visiting, need to abide by the fireworks ban,” she said. “We’ve already had one wildfire in May in Plain. Attention: The current fuel moistures and fire weather have increased to the point it necessitates a ban on all outdoor debris burning.This ban on outdoor debris burning will start Tomorrow morning (5/28/25). All debris burning will be banned at that time. Recreational campfires in an approved ring are still acceptable.
