CCFD#3 has recognized the need for fuel reduction in the district for years. The inability to burn woody debris during the summer months is compounded by the apple maggot quarantine restrictions. Our chipping program in the spring and fall has made an impact in processing the dead and down fuel loading in the community. Furthermore, our Fuels Crew has been hard at work this summer, completing 16 defensible space treatments so far with over 20 acres treated. This work is being achieved with funds from the Community Wildfire Defense Grant. We’re extremely proud of the hard work our crew is doing to make our communities’ homes safer in the event of wildfire; creating defensible space around individual homes and egress paths. Attention - The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Leavenworth area until 11AM tomorrow. With incoming thunderstorms and low relative humidity throughout the region (let's not get into the fuel moistures - also very dry) we ask everyone to exercise extreme caution over the next 24 hours or so. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the current Fire Restrictions in place for Fire District 3 and the surrounding area. ALL outdoor burning is closed - This includes recreational campfires.The Current Fire Danger is:HIGH (Chelan FDRA) and VERY HIGH (Valley)U.S. Forest Service - Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest restrictions can be found here: www.fs.usda.gov/r06/okanogan-wenatcheeWashington State Department of Natural Resources restrictions can be found here:dnr.wa.gov/wildfire-resources/outdoor-burning/burn-restrictionsFireworks continue to be illegal in Chelan County. CCFD#3 is proud to announce the completion of our newest apparatus. With this new apparatus going into service, the previous Rescue (a KME type 3 brush truck) remains in service as our first out wildland apparatus. Rescue 31 was placed in service around a week ago. A collaborative effort between our district mechanic, Capt. Marcus Wells, along with Career and Volunteer member labor helped bring the project together. A custom-built apparatus can cost upwards of $250,000. With the use of in-house expertise and fabrication, we were able to build this apparatus for around half that cost. In addition to saving money, the attention to detail and Capt. Wells' extensive automotive experience ensures us a quality build. See some in-progress photos below, along with the finished build.
