As of today, Outdoor Burning is open in Fire District 3. Debris Piles cannot exceed 4'x4'. If you have larger piles, you may need to obtain a burn permit from DNR. That information is found here: www.dnr.wa.gov/programs-and-services/wildfire/outdoor-burning/burn-permitsAs a reminder, you cannot burn yard debris in the City of Leavenworth or Urban Growth Area. Capt. Paddy Brown (FDNY 3 Truck/Ladder 3): “I’m on the 35th floor, okay, okay?. Just relay to the command post we’re trying to get up. There’s numerous civilians at all stairwells, numerous burn injuries are coming down. I’m trying to send them down first. Apparently, it’s above the 75th floor.I don’t know if they got there yet. Okay. Three Truck and we are still heading up. Okay? Thank you.”Command Post to Ladder 3:“Command Post to Ladder 3, get outof the building!” Capt. Paddy Brown responded: “This is Captain Paddy Brown, I am the officer of Ladder Co. 3. and I refuse the order! I am on the 44th floor and we have too many burned people with me. I'm not leaving them!”These are the last radio transmissions from Captain Patrick “Paddy” Brown, Commanding Officer of FDNY’s 3 Truck (Ladder 3). Capt. Brown had with him that day the offgoing shift as well as their relief. 11 firefighters (including Capt. Brown) from Ladder 3 died that day.Today we remember those who we lost. CCFD#3 is proud to welcome the 2024-2025 Fire Science Cadet Class from Cascade High School. The cadet class consists of structural fire training during the 1st semester, then wildland training the second semester. Pictured are the cadets, along with instructors and teaching assistants. Capt. Madison Tibbetts is the lead instructor for structural firefighting, and Capt. Marcus Wells is the lead instructor for the wildland portion. Over the years, this program has produced numerous career Firefighters, as well as many Forest Service and DNR Wildland Firefighters. Cadets also have the ability to receive college credit for the classes. This CTE program is sponsored by Cascade School District #228. As of 9:00AM this morning, CCFD#3 is lifting the ban on recreational campfires in Fire District 3 (Including the City of Leavenworth).We are grateful for the cooperation of this community when we enact a ban. With the amount of rain weve received and forecasted humidity the next few days, the risk from responsible recreational campfires is very low.We are not out of fire season yet, and we may need to reenact the ban as conditions warrant.
